Geoffrey Rush Denies ‘Inappropriate Behavior’ During Sydney Theatre Company Play

Geoffrey Rush is denying accusations of “inappropriate behavior” during his time with the Sydney Theatre Company (STC).

“The moment I became aware of rumors of a complaint I immediately phoned and spoke to senior management at the Sydney Theatre Company asking for clarification about the details of the statement,” the Academy Award said in a statement.

“They refused to illuminate me with the details. I also asked why this information was being withheld, and why, according to standard theatre practice the issue had not been raised with me during the production via stage management, the director, my fellow actors or anyone at management level. However, no response was forthcoming,” he added.

A Sydney Theatre Company spokeswoman reportedly said that they had “received a complaint alleging that Mr Geoffrey Rush had engaged in inappropriate behavior” after his “engagement with the company had ended,” but did not elaborate on the nature of the complaint.

“The complainant has requested that their identity be withheld,” the STC spokeswoman reportedly said, adding, “STC respects that request and for privacy reasons, will not be making any further comments.”

PEOPLE has reached out for further comment from both the STC and Rush’s representatives but has yet to receive a response.

Rush, 66, recently performed in a production of Shakespeare’s King Lear between November 2015 and January 2016 at the STC.

“It is a great disappointment to Mr Rush the STC has chosen to smear his name and unjustifiably damage his reputation in this way,” a representative for Rush said in a statement.

Armie Hammer Explains Why He Quit Twitter After ‘Bitter’ BuzzFeed Article

Armie Hammer is breaking his silence on why he chose to quit Twitter on Monday.

The actor stepped away from the social media platform just a day after BuzzFeed published a scathing review of his career titled 10 Long Years of Trying to Make Armie Hammer Happen.

“I just have no impulse control,” Hammer said at TheWrap’s Screening Series at the Landmark Theatre in Los Angeles on Tuesday. “So if somebody says something stupid, I couldn’t help but say something back, and then it just exploded. This is a toxic environment, and my life is way better off. It’s so funny — People are so addicted and into Twitter, it seems crazy that someone could walk away from it! They’re like, wait, he deleted it? It was actually really easy.”

After BuzzFeed posted its article, which accused Hollywood of giving Hammer “many second chances” that might not have been afforded to women or actors of color, the actor replied in a since-deleted tweet, “Bitter AF.”

Hammer also got into a Twitter beef with James Woods recently, who had commented on the age difference between Hammer’s character and his love interest in Call Me By Your Name.

“Didn’t you date a 19 year old when you were 60…….?” Hammer replied. Woods had dated 19-year-old Ashley Madison when he was 59 for more than six years starting in 2007. He later broke up with Madison and started dating 20-year-old Kristen Bauguess in 2013 when he was 66.

Call Me By Your Name has been earning rave reviews and Oscar buzz. Hammer admitted at a Q&A after a screening at the Toronto International Film Festival that he took on the role of the grad student who falls in love with his professor’s son because it made brought him out of his comfort zone.

“To be perfectly honest, I think the reason I took this movie, and the reason I had to take this movie, is that it scared me,” he said. “It made me uncomfortable, it challenged me, and it pushed me. I couldn’t be more thankful for the experience.”

Call Me By Your Name is out now.

Jennifer Garner ‘Not Interested in Dating’ After Split: ‘I Would Not Have Chosen This Life’

Nearly two and a half years after she and Ben Affleck announced their split, Jennifer Garner says she still isn’t interested in getting back in the dating game.

Garner, who was married to the Justice League star for 10 years before they separated in June 2015, told reporters that since their split, she hasn’t “been on a date” and is “not interested in dating,” according to

She added, “People want to set me up and I am just like, ‘No thank you!’ ”

The actress, 45, who has three kids with Affleck — Violet, 12, Seraphina, 8 and Samuel, 5 — said of her life after the separation, “I would not have chosen this life for myself or for my kids. I would not choose to be single or be in this position. It’s something that we are working through.”

Garner and Affleck filed for divorce this April, but have stayed close, with Garner even helping her ex with his struggles with alcohol addiction: “She wants Ben to be the best dad possible to their kids,” a source tells PEOPLE in the magazine’s new issue.

Garner, who’s promoting her new movie The Tribes of Palos Verdes, also spoke about the sexual misconduct scandals rocking Hollywood. “We can’t lump all men into ,” she said. “We can’t just assume that every man has done something awful or that every man is guilty; due process is important and has to take place.”

Her estranged husband has also found himself the target of sexual misconduct allegations. Last month, One Tree Hill star Hilarie Burton claimed Affleck groped her when she was a host of MTV’s TRL.

“I don’t remember it but I absolutely apologize for it,” Affleck said on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Nov. 16. “I certainly don’t think she’s lying or making it up. It’s just the kind of thing we have to — as men, I think, as we become more aware of this — be really, really mindful of our behavior and hold ourselves accountable. And say, ‘If I was ever part of the problem, I want to change and be part of the solution.’ ”

Speaking about the scandal at large, Garner said, “Things have to come out in the open in order to be dealt with, and this is definitely one of those times. It’s messy, it’s not pretty, but a wound when it’s healing is a horrible thing to look at and to be around.

“That is where we are. There are a lot of really smart people asking tough questions, and I feel excited to see what the outcome will be.”

‘It’s Very Painful’ Roman Polanski Hasn’t Visited Sharon Tate’s Grave Since Murder, Says Director’s Lawyer

Nearly 50 years after Charles Manson’s followers brutally murdered nine people, including pregnant actress Sharon Tate, her husband Roman Polanski still hasn’t made a visit his late wife and child’s graves.

After Manson’s death Sunday at the age of 83, Polanski’s lawyer Harland Braun tells PEOPLE the director still longs to visit his wife and child’s burial plots in Los Angeles. The Oscar winner has not returned to the United States since fleeing the country in 1978 after he pleaded guilty to raping a 13-year-old.

“It is a very painful thing because Sharon and his son are buried here in Los Angeles at Holy Cross Cemetery and because of this case, he has never been able to visit their graves,” says the attorney.

A career criminal who spent over half his life in prison, Manson became the leader of a group of young followers he convinced to murder for him and who became known as the Manson “family.”

The savage slayings — committed at Manson’s behest and for which he was found legally responsible but were not, technically, committed by him directly — shocked and terrified the nation.

Manson was eventually sentenced to death in 1971 for conspiracy to commit seven murders, but the sentence was reduced to life in prison one year later when California abolished the death penalty.

After the killings, Braun, who was a deputy district attorney in L.A. before becoming a criminal defense lawyer, was tasked with prosecuting some of the Manson family after a few of his followers, who had not been charged for the murders, went on a robbing spree in an effort to earn money to free Manson from prison.

“No matter what you would ask, he would say, ‘Thermometer,’” Braun said of cross-examining Manson. “It was bizarre because who would ever put Charles Manson on as a character witness? The whole thing was pretty bizarre.”

While the murder spree captivated the country and made Manson’s name synonymous with evil, Braun says he tries to keep the crimes in perspective. “He is evil but there is a lot of evil in the world,” he says. “You see people being slaughtered by ISIS, children dying in the Mediterranean and he is just part of human nature. There are a lot of evil people around.”

He adds, “The sad thing was most of the people in the Manson family had lost their minds in this cultish kind of behavior. It is sad there are evil people out there like that.”

Meanwhile, Polanski recently spoke out about his 1970s rape accusation in a rare interview, saying that he feels he’s completed his sentence.

“As far as what I did: It’s over. I pleaded guilty,” Polanski told The Hollywood Reporter. “I went to jail. I came back to the United States to do it, people forget about that, or don’t even know. I then was locked up here after this festival. So in the sum, I did about four or five times than what was promised to me.”

In 2009, Polanski was detained by Zurich police after the United States attempted to have him extradited to face charges relating to the decades-old rape case.

After fleeing the United States in 1978, he was detained in Switzerland, jailed and placed on house arrest for several months, until the Swiss government officially declined to deport him. Since then, Polanski has remained a fugitive. The case is still ongoing, despite his victim’s requests to have it dismissed.

Just a day after Polanski declared he had paid his debt for the rape charge, The New York Times reported that a German actress filed a report with the Swiss police accusing Polanski of raping her at a house in Gstaad when she was 15 in Feb. 1972. According to the outlet, the public prosecutor’s office is still deciding if she can pursue a criminal complaint. A lawyer for Polanski reportedly declined to comment at the time.

Inside Ben Affleck’s Battle with Addiction — and How Jennifer Garner Has Helped Him

Ben Affleck hasn’t been afraid to ask for help in keeping his life and sobriety on track.

The Justice League star, who has been open about his struggle with alcohol abuse, leaned on others, including his ex Jennifer Garner, after suffering a relapse in September, sources tell PEOPLE in the magazine’s new issue.

“He asked for help,” a family source says, adding, “He wants to be sober.”

Garner and Affleck’s brother Casey helped Affleck, 45, go back into inpatient treatment for a few days. Since then, he’s been going to outpatient treatment in L.A., and has traveled with a sober coach as he promotes his latest outing as Batman. “This is a lifelong battle, not one that he takes lightly,” adds an Affleck friend, who says he’s been in “continual” treatment since a rehab stay in March. “His focus is on his family and getting better so that he can continue with what he loves.”

For much more about Affleck, pick up the new issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands this week.

While he has “had a rough year” personally and professionally, the family source says “at the moment, he is doing great. He seems more honest with himself.”

Garner, 45, has been supportive of Affleck despite their pending divorce. “For Jen, it’s simple. She wants Ben to be the best dad possible to their kids,” Violet, 12, Seraphina, 8 and Samuel, 5, says the family source. “She wants Ben to be healthy.”

While support from his loved ones helps, an industry source close to the actor says, “He is always going to have to face those demons. How he goes forward is strictly up to him.”

Affleck, who’s been dating Saturday Night Live producer Lindsay Shookus, 37, since going public with their relationship in July, has said he plans to spend Thanksgiving with Garner and their kids.

He has also spent time in talk-show appearances addressing Hollywood’s sexual-harassment scandal.

Tyrese Gibson Gets 50/50 Joint Custody with Daughter as Judge Denies Ex’s Restraining Order Request

Tyrese Gibson just scored a major victory in his ugly court battle with ex-wife Norma Mitchell Gibson over custody of their 10-year-old daughter, Shayla.

On Friday, a judge awarded Gibson 50/50 joint custody of his daughter beginning in January and denied his ex-wife’s request for a permanent restraining order, Gibson’s rep tells PEOPLE. The actor’s rep also confirms that the former couple have worked out a visitation schedule for the holidays.

Norma’s rep has not responded to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Child services initially launched their investigation into Gibson after Norma — who was married to him from 2007 to 2009 — accused the actor of abusing their daughter on Aug. 19, alleging in court documents that the actor “pushed our daughter to the ground, pinned her face down, put his knees on her back, grabbed her hands with one arm and beat her with the other.” She also alleged in court documents that her ex hit Shayla “between 12 and 16 times,” leading the child to allegedly later tell her mother that she couldn’t sit down due to pain.

In court documents obtained by PEOPLE in September, physical and legal custody of Shayla was temporarily granted to Norma while ordering Gibson to stay 100 yards away from both of them as well as Norma’s home.

Gibson’s rep previously confirmed reports to PEOPLE that child’s services had closed their investigation and would not be seeking criminal charges.

The Fast & Furious star previously told PEOPLE in a statement that Norma’s allegations were “hurtful lies.”

In October,  Norma filed a police report against Gibson after he hired a plane to fly a banner directed at Shayla that read “No matter what, daddy loves you Shayla” over his daughter’s school — an act she claimed violated her temporary restraining order against him. Gibson later admitted to flying the banner, sharing several photos of himself and Shayla to Instagram with the caption: “I wanted the banner to be longer but it’s was too expensive.”

In a statement to PEOPLE, Norma’s attorney, Aleen Laura Khanjian,  said in response to the banner: “This disturbing behavior is a complete violation of the restraining order. It is a reflection of Mr. Gibson’s erratic state of mind.”

Khanjian continued, “Simply put, he doesn’t respect boundaries. If he did, this restraining order would not have been necessary. At the end of the day, we simply want him to get the help he needs so that he can become a stable, solid and secure presence in his daughter’s life.”

Tyrese has posted often about his ongoing custody battle in recent weeks on social media. Last week, he shared a video montage on his Instagram account that showed photos of celebrities like Kanye WestWill SmithMichael Jacksonand Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson with their kids as Luther Vandross’ “Dance with my Father” played in the background.

He also previously released an almost seven-minute long tearful video in which he openly begged Norma for reconciliation.

“Don’t take my baby. This is all I got. Don’t take my baby, okay?” he said in the Facebook live clip, sobbing. “I’ve been away from my baby for two months. I just want my baby and no one’s listening cause no one’s in the courtroom.”

Hours later, he shared another video on Instagram assuring fans he was doing well.

Norma claimed in her September declaration that Gibson was diagnosed with bipolar disorder as well as manic behavior by three psychotherapists — which she said he denied. She expressed she was “deeply concerned” about the actor taking their daughter to Dubai, where he has allegedly threatened to travel in the past — and claimed the he did not return their daughter’s passport to her when she requested. She also claimed the actor withheld contact between her and Shayla while their daughter stayed with him.

Justice League: Inside the Cast’s ‘Chemistry’ — and the Most ‘Unforgettable’ Moment from Set

The Justice League goes through some serious growing pains before they finally learn how to work together, but the cast behind the superheroes bonded with each other quick as a flash.

“The chemistry between the cast was better than we could have imagined,” producer Chuck Roven tells PEOPLE of the star-studded ensemble film. “They completely connected both on and off the set.”

The cast, who posed for the exclusive PEOPLE photo above, includes Ezra Miller as the Flash, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Ray Fisher as Cyborg.

“Usually, in between setups the cast will migrate and go back to their trailers but for most of the shoot, not only in between takes but in between setups, the cast would hang with each other,” Roven explained. “Whenever I would turn around or arrive on set there they would be, telling each other a story, an anecdote or laughing.”

Newcomer Fisher, 30, bonded with Game of Thrones actor Mamoa the very first time they met. “When I went to shoot my day on Batman v Superman, Jason was also in town and he must’ve heard I was in the makeup trailer getting my face done and he comes in and was just like, ‘What’s up?! Nice to meet you.’ It was like an instant friendship,” he said.

“We’re working on something that transcends us all and we’ll be together for months and months, and hopefully years and years. just a great energy,” he added.

“After I shot my day in Detroit, they were shooting a scene with Ben and I ended up meeting Ben that day as well — and the rest of the crew I met later on,” Fisher explained. “I met Ezra in New York and I met Gal and Henry for the first time in London, which was pretty phenomenal. Stepping on to the set, it’s this eclectic group of personalities that all have their own comedic sensibility, it was pretty special to watch.”

Miller also spoke with PEOPLE about his relationship with his coworkers, saying, “I love this gang of weirdos. We’re all very different humans and we really love each other through and through. I personally always feel that the goodness of what we create interpersonally on a set flows into the quantum fabric of the film. I trust completely in this very esoteric understanding.”

Affleck hopes that audiences enjoy seeing all their very different characters come together on the big screen. “Wonder Woman is very powerful, Aquaman is very badass — he’s got very strong and stubborn energy,” he explained. “Flash is a lot of fun and full of life and Cyborg is just a very smart and independent person.”

For Roven, seeing all the characters come together for the first time was the most exciting moment of the production. “Nothing could possibly be cooler than the moment we saw all the Justice League characters each in their own signature superhero costume, all on the set at the same time,” he said. “It was an unforgettable and electric moment.”

Justice League is in theaters now.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Daughter Simone Named 2018 Golden Globe Ambassador

Johnson will be tasked with escorting honorees on and off the stage, as well as carrying the statuettes.

The 15-year-old model accompanied her famous dad when he won the 2017 People’s Choice Award for favorite premium series actor back in January. The Ballers actor brought his daughter as his date, and gave her a special shout-out from the stage, saying, “I love you so much.”

Angelina Jolie Alludes to Hollywood Sexual Misconduct Scandal in Emotional U.N. Speech

Angelina Jolie referenced the outpouring of sexual misconduct allegations in Hollywood while urging United Nations peacekeepers to crack down on sexual violence in an emotional speech.

“Sexual violence is everywhere – in the industry where I work, in business, in universities, in politics, in the military, and across the world,” she said during her keynote address to the U.N. Peacekeeping Defense Ministerial Conference in Vancouver on Wednesday.

“All too often, these kinds of crimes against women are laughed off, depicted as a minor offense by someone who cannot control themselves, as an illness, or as some kind of exaggerated sexual need,” she added. “But a man who mistreats women is not oversexed. He is abusive.”

Jolie, who has worked as a Special Envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, previously confirmed to The New York Times that she had had “a bad experience” with Harvey Weinstein that caused her to end her relationship with him. Weinstein has been accused of sexual misconduct by over 50 women since The New York Times and The New Yorker documented decades of alleged sexual misconduct and sexual assault involving a number of women in detailed articles in early October.

“Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein,” a representative for the producer tells PEOPLE in a statement. “Mr. Weinstein has further confirmed that there were never any acts of retaliation against any women for refusing his advances. Mr. Weinstein obviously can’t speak to anonymous allegations, but with respect to any women who have made allegations on the record, Mr. Weinstein believes that all of these relationships were consensual.”

Jolie called sexual violence “a critical obstacle to achieving women’s equality and our full human rights,” adding that it is often used as a weapon of war. “It is cheaper than a bullet, and it has lasting consequences that unfold with sickening predictability that make it so cruelly effective,” she explained.

Outside of Hollywood, the actress pointed to female Rohingya refugees seeking asylum in Bangladesh, saying that almost every woman there “is either a survivor of sexual violence or a witness to multiple incidences of sexual assault, rape or gang‑rape.”

RELATED: Angelina Jolie Walks Hand-in-Hand with Older Daughters Shiloh and Zahara on the Red Carpet

She also noted the Democratic Republic of Congo, where she said last week a trial opened “for 46 alleged cases of the rape of children by militia fighters, who had been told that blood of virgins would grant them supernatural protection. Some of the victims were 18 months old.”

Jolie went on to say that recognizing sexual violence as a weapon of war is not enough. “Even if we accept that sexual violence has nothing to do with sex, that it is a crime, and that it is used as a weapon, many people still believe that it is simply not possible to do anything about it.”

Fighting against sexual violence is “hard, but it is not impossible,” she said. “We have the laws, the institutions, and the expertise in gathering evidence. We are able to identify perpetrators. What is missing is the political will.”

Harvey Weinstein Sued for Allegedly Raping Actress in 2015

Another woman has come forward to accuse Harvey Weinstein of rape.

An unnamed actress listed as Jane Doe filed a lawsuit against the disgraced producer, claiming he masturbated in front of her in 2015 and raped her in 2016 at the same Beverly Hills hotel.

The woman allegedly met Weinstein in 2011 at a party in Los Angeles, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE. She says she told the producer that she was an actress, and claims that Weinstein “offered to assist her” with her career, so she gave him her number.

According to the court documents, the two “maintained regular communication … every few months thereafter.” The woman also claims Weinstein invited her to attend award show parties over the next few years.

In 2015, the actress claims she met Weinstein at the Montage hotel to talk about a role on the show Marco Polo as well as “acting in two to three other projects.” At some point, Weinstein allegedly asked he if he could masturbate in front of her, an offer she says she declined. Despite telling him “no,” the actress says Weinstein grabbed her wrist with one hand while masturbating with his other hand until completion. The documents do not specify where the incident took place within the hotel.

Later in 2016, the woman allegedly met Weinstein again at the same hotel to “celebrate her upcoming role” in the show, “giving her the impression that she had been chosen for the part.” After briefly excusing himself, Weinstein allegedly returned in a bathrobe. The actress says she told Weinstein that “she did not want to do anything sexual with him.” He allegedly ignored her and “forcefully threw her” on the bed, pulled down her jeans and “started to orally copulate her.”

RELATED: Harvey Weinstein Is in Los Angeles with His Family: Sources

She claims she tried to push him off, but that Weinstein used his “massive weight and strength” to force his penis inside of her vagina without a condom. “After he withdrew, he gripped her with one hand while using his other hand to masturbate,” the documents state. The actress “finally broke free from his grasp and immediately left the bedroom and suite.”

After the alleged attack, the woman says he contacted her again “and acted as if nothing had happened.” She allegedly “swore at him and hung up the phone.”

The woman, who says she never got the role on Marco Polo, is also suing The Weinstein Company, claiming the company was aware of that the producer had a pattern of using potential job opportunities to lure actresses into sex, and using violence to get his way.

Weinstein, who is currently in Los Angeles spending time with his family, has been accused of sexual misconduct by over 50 women since The New York Times and The New Yorker documented decades of alleged sexual misconduct and sexual assault involving a number of women in detailed articles in early October.

The New York Police Department is currently gathering evidence against Weinstein after detectives interviewed actress Paz de la Huerta, who claims Weinstein raped her twice in 2010. Los Angeles police are also probing for “lewd conduct” stemming from an incident in 2015, while a similar investigation is underway in Beverly Hills.

Meanwhile, police in the United Kingdom have widened their investigation into Weinstein to include allegations of sexual assault by seven women.
