Donald Trump’s budget director: defunding Meals on Wheels is ‘compassionate’

Some days, I completely tune out political news. It’s a coping mechanism, but it’s also a general feeling of… I can only maintain a sense of anger and rage and disgust for so long. Thursday was one of those days. Thursday should have been about how Donald Trump’s dumb, racist Muslim Ban 2.0 was blocked. But the day morphed into everyone freaking out about Trump’s immoral budget proposal, and then the day’s news morphed even further into more bulls–t about Trump’s claim that President Obama wiretapped him. I’m all for leaning into the “investigation” into Trump’s wiretapping claims because I think Trump is opening a can of worms (Russian worms). But all of this is just a gigantic mess. So here are some of the big headlines from the past 24 hours:

The British intelligence service slammed Trump. The GCHQ is like our American NSA, and the GCHQ thinks Donald Trump is an idiot (no lies told). Trump and his people keep insisting that Trump said what he said about Obama wiretapping him except maybe he was joking and maybe you misheard him but wait there’s evidence of the wiretap but you can’t see it and look, over there. One claim made by Fox News commentator Judge Andrew Napolitano was that Obama asked the GCHQ to wiretap Trump. Well, the GCHQ released a statement about it: “Recent allegations made by media commentator Judge Andrew Napolitano about GCHQ being asked to conduct ‘wire tapping’ against the then President Elect are nonsense. They are utterly ridiculous and should be ignored.”

Meals on Wheels. As I mentioned yesterday, Meals on Wheels is one of the many programs which Trump wants to defund in his proposed budget. Meals on Wheels simply provides hand-delivered food to elderly people all around the country. It’s that simple. It’s a great program and its yearly budget costs as much as one of Trump’s weekend trips to Florida. When pressed about the cruelty of the Trump budget, the White House’s budget director Mick Mulvaney said it was actually “compassionate.” You know, compassionate to taxpayers who don’t want to see elderly people fed on a regular basis. Compassionate to taxpayers who would rather pour more money into endless defense spending.

Trumpcare is close to dead. Yay, I guess? Speaker Ryan is trying to whip votes in the House, but Trumpcare seems D.O.A. (much like the millions of Americans who would lose their healthcare in the coming years) in the Senate. It’s just one vote shy of dead.

Mike Flynn was as crooked as they come. Lock him up. I’m absolutely serious. That motherf–ker needs to be in jail.
